Thirty-two children fell ill due to suspected food poisoning at a Bala Sadan hostel in Telangana’s Peddapalli district late Wednesday night.

As many as 32 children fell ill due to suspected food poisoning at the Bala Sadan in Peddapalli district on Wednesday night.

The incident occurred around 10:30 pm after the children had dinner at the hostel. One after another, the children began vomiting and complained of discomfort.

The hostel management immediately shifted them to the Government District Hospital in the district headquarters. Hospital Superintendent Dr K. Sridhar said the children are being provided medical treatment. He added that the condition of the five children deteriorated, and they are currently being administered intravenous fluids.

Officials are yet to ascertain whether the illness was caused by contaminated food or polluted drinking water.

This comes amid a spate of food poisoning incidents across Telangana in recent weeks. Separate reports have said more than 100 students across the state, mainly those at government schools and hostels, fell ill with similar symptoms over the past weeks, highlighting growing concerns over food safety in hostel kitchens.

Officials in Pedapalli have assured parents that a detailed inquiry will be conducted and appropriate action taken once the investigation is complete
