Mumbai Police have arrested four persons in connection with the firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in the Juhu area, with the initial investigation pointing to their alleged links with Lawrence Bishnoi gang member Shubham Lonkar, an accused in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique.

According to the police, at least five rounds were fired at the first floor of the nine-storey residential building at around 12.45 am on Sunday.

One bullet struck the glass of a gym located inside the building.

No one was injured in the incident, and it was not immediately known whether Shetty was present at his home at the time of the firing.

Following the attack, security outside the building was intensified.

“Zonal police and crime branch teams are investigating," a Mumbai Police officer told reporters, adding that personnel from Juhu Police Station and the crime branch rushed to the spot and launched the probe.

CCTV footage from the area was examined to reconstruct the sequence of events, while forensic science and ballistic experts collected evidence from the scene.

A case was registered on charges of attempt to murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and under provisions of the Arms Act.

FIRING OUTSIDE ROHIT SHETTY’s HOUSE: 5 WERE DETAINED

Five men were initially detained in Pune by personnel from the Warje Malwadi police station.

Pune Police Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Sambhaji Kadam identified them as Aman Marote (27) and Aditya Gayaki (19), residents of Karve Nagar, and Siddharth Yenpure (20), Samarth Pomaji (18) and Swapnil Sakat (23), residents of Dhayari.

Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi said the suspects were later handed over to the Mumbai Police.

Late on Sunday night, the Anti-Extortion Cell of the Mumbai crime branch formally arrested four of them after their alleged roles in providing logistics to the shooters came to light.

They were produced before a court, which remanded them in police custody till February 5.

THREATENING POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Hours after the firing, a threatening post surfaced on social media claiming that Lonkar was behind the attack, police said.

The Hindi message, shared from an account named “Shubham Lonkar and Arzoo Bishnoi", also mentioned alleged gang operatives Hari Boxer and Harman Shandu.

“We messaged him many times asking him not to interfere in our work, but he did not understand," the post read.

Calling the attack only a “trailer", it warned, “If he doesn’t listen, the next bullets won’t be outside his house, they will be inside his bedroom."

It further said, “This is a warning to the entire Bollywood, stay within limits. If you do not improve, the situation will become very bad, worse than what Baba Siddiqui faced. Those we have contacted should mend their ways while there is still time. Otherwise, there will be nowhere to hide."

Meanwhile, during court proceedings cited by news agency ANI, the lawyer for the accused denied any gang links and said they had no knowledge of the firing.

“The police sought custody from the court, saying they had a role to play in the firing incident. The accused do not know what has happened. Someone else fired the shots. The arrested accused are not related to each other, they have been arrested after analysing the CCTV footage," the lawyer said.

“We are ready to cooperate. Listening to all the arguments, the court has granted a four-day police custody. The accused have no links with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang," the lawyer said.

DCP Sambhaji Kadam said teams were formed in Pune after receiving information from Mumbai Police, and the five suspects were arrested and handed over for further questioning.

“More information about the incident will emerge after a detailed investigation," he said.

Police officials reiterated that no injuries were reported in the firing and that all possible angles are being examined as the investigation continues.
