Accident in Palnadu district has left 4 dead and 7 injured after a speeding multi-utility vehicle crashed into a parked lorry

PALNADU: Four people died and seven others injured after the multi-utility vehicle (MUV) they were travelling in crashed into a stationary lorry on Srisailam Road in Andhra Pradesh's Palnadu district on Friday.The victims were on their way from Hyderabad to attend the funeral of an acquaintance when the accident occurred, police said.According to police, the MUV, carrying 11 occupants within its permitted seating capacity, rammed into the rear of a lorry that had been parked on the roadside near the Nagaram area in Macherla after suffering a tyre burst."Four people, two men and two women, were killed after the vehicle crashed into a stationary lorry near Nagaram area at Macherla in Palnadu district," the official told PTI.Police said the driver of the MUV reportedly failed to notice the stationary vehicle on a curved stretch of the road, resulting in the collision.Seven other occupants sustained injuries, including fractures in some cases. However, none of the injured are believed to be in a life-threatening condition, officials said.Police have registered a case under Sections 106(1) and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Section 106(1) pertains to causing death by negligence, while Section 125(a) deals with acts endangering the life or personal safety of others. Further investigation is underway.(With agency inputs)
