Four members of a family, including three children, died after allegedly inhaling carbon monoxide from a running two-wheeler in Punganur town of Annamayya district. The deceased were identified as Ramachandra (75), his grandchildren Karthik (15), and seven-year-old twins Chandana and Charitha.

The Punganur police said that the tragedy occurred at a house in Tyagaraja Street. According to preliminary information, the two-wheeler had undergone engine boring on Saturday (March 14, 2026) and was reportedly left running overnight inside the house on the mechanic’s advice.

Police suspect that carbon monoxide emitted from the vehicle accumulated inside the closed house, leading to suffocation during the night. The children’s parents escaped the tragedy as they were sleeping on the first floor with the doors closed.

Neighbours alerted authorities after the victims were found unresponsive on Sunday (March 15, 2026) morning. Police confirmed the deaths and shifted the bodies to the government area hospital for postmortem. A case has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing.
