42-year-old man dies of dengue fever in Kerala’s Palakkad district

Palakkad: A 42-year-old man died of dengue fever in Palakkad district, taking the toll due to the disease in the district to three within a week.Jijo Mohan of Vallikkad in Karimpuzha died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Perinthalmanna.The latest death comes amid a surge in dengue cases across the district. A 62-year-old woman from Karimpuzha succumbed to the disease a few days ago while a 73-year-old woman from Pattambi died of dengue on June 13.According to health department data, two dengue-related deaths were reported in the district in May. Officials said that 543 people have sought treatment for dengue fever in the district so far this month. Mannarkkad region has reported the highest number of cases, prompting authorities to step up surveillance and preventive measures.The district health department said intensified mosquito control and awareness campaigns have been launched in affected areas to contain the spread of the disease.
