43-year-old man posing as Navy officer held

Kochi: City police arrested a 43-year-old man for allegedly posing as an Indian Navy officer and duping a Pathanamthitta native of Rs 18 lakh by offering to arrange a job for him.The accused was identified as Bimal Namboothiri alias Bimal S Vijayan of Adoor.He was arrested on Friday following a joint operation by city police and intelligence agencies. Police seized Navy uniforms, insignia, walkie-talkies, swords and plaques from his flat in Palarivattom.He was arrested from Chengamanad. The accused previously worked as a priest in Ernakulam, said police. He failed to secure the promised jobs and later returned only Rs 3 lakh to the complainant.Vandal held: Palarivattom police arrested a man for allegedly trespassing into the compound of MP Hibi Eden’s residence in Kochi, vandalising flower pots and threatening to set fire to a vehicle parked on the premise onThursday.The accused is Alex Chacko of Ernakulam. A probe is on to ascertain the motive behind the incident, said police.Absconding accused held: A 51-year-old man accused of murder in Kolkata was arrested by Perumbavoor police on Friday. Fakeer Mandal was accused of hacking a woman to death in Kolkata. He was staying hiding in Mudickal, Perumbavoor.
