San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Keion White was shot in the ankle early Monday morning in San Francisco, just hours after Super Bowl celebrations wrapped up in the Bay Area. The incident occurred around 4 a.m.
in the city’s Mission District following a verbal altercation inside a nightclub that escalated, prompting a police response.
Authorities said the shooting took place during the dispute, and officers provided immediate aid before the injured individual was transported to a local hospital.White is recovering after the shooting and suffered a non life threatening injury, according to team officials and a source familiar with the matter.
The San Francisco Police Department did not publicly identify the victim but confirmed the injured person is being treated as a victim in the case. No arrests had been made as of Monday evening, and investigators continue to seek information related to the incident while the 49ers monitor White’s condition and recovery timeline.

Police officials said officers arriving at the scene found a victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and provided immediate aid before paramedics transported him to the hospital.
The department’s Strategic Investigation Unit is handling the case, and officials noted that more details will be released as they become available.White was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, where he was treated for the gunshot wound and later underwent surgery. In a statement released Monday afternoon, the San Francisco 49ers said, “Keion White was a victim of a shooting and sustained a bullet wound to his ankle this morning in San Francisco.
He is currently undergoing surgery at a local hospital. We will provide further updates when appropriate.
”White, 27, joined San Francisco on Oct. 28 after being acquired from the New England Patriots in a trade that involved late round 2026 draft picks. A second round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, White showed flashes of ability in New England but struggled to secure a steady role. He recorded 88 tackles and 7.5 sacks across 38 games with the Patriots.With the 49ers, White appeared in nine games, made two starts, and finished with 12 tackles and 1.5 sacks. He remains under contract through the 2026 season and is expected to factor into the team’s defensive line rotation. General manager John Lynch has previously spoken about the organization’s belief in White’s long term upside.
