5 of a family killed as speeding SUV rams truck on NH-43 in MP

BHOPAL: Five members of a family, including a child, were killed after their speeding SUV rammed into a truck on NH-43 in Madhya Pradesh’s Umaria district in the early hours of Thursday.The accident took place between 3am and 4am near the Civil Lines police outpost under Kotwali police station limits.According to police, the family from Anuppur district was travelling to Chitrakoot when the SUV lost control near the Siddh Baba area at Bharoula and crashed into the rear of a moving truck.The impact ripped apart the front portion of the SUV, leaving its occupants trapped inside.Police and a 108 ambulance team went to the spot and launched a rescue operation.

One victim had to be extricated from the mangled vehicle.The injured were taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared one person brought dead. Another victim later succumbed to injuries during treatment, taking the death toll to five.The deceased include a young child, three women and a man.
