BENGALURU: Five passengers and a driver were injured after an electric Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus rammed into another electric bus waiting at a traffic signal near KR Circle in Bengaluru on Saturday morning.The accident took place around 8.30 am when a Tata Smart Mobility-operated electric bus from Depot-3 rear-ended a Vayu Vajra electric bus, operated by OHM Mobility, that had stopped at the signal on Route No. 60B/15 from Kempegowda Bus Station (KBS) to Attibele, BMTC officials said.The injured passengers and the driver of the Tata Smart Mobility bus were shifted to St Martha's Hospital.Officials said all sustained minor injuries, while the driver's condition is stable.
No passengers travelling in the OHM Mobility-operated bus were seriously injured.The two electric buses are operated by private firms Tata Smart Mobility and OHM Mobility under BMTC's lease arrangement.Passengers alleged that the bus which crashed into the stationary vehicle was being driven at high speed.Farooq, one of the injured passengers, said he was travelling with his family when the bus hit the vehicle ahead, causing him to strike his head against a pole inside the bus.
He said two of his family members suffered minor injuries, while the driver sustained more serious injuries.The collision led to traffic congestion at the busy KR Circle junction. The damaged buses were removed using two cranes, after which traffic movement was restored.Transport minister Byrathi Suresh and senior transport department officials later visited the hospital to enquire about the condition of the injured passengers and the bus crew.
