50 sovereigns gold jewellery, ₹5 lakh cash stolen from a hotelier’s house in Thanjavur

The Thanjavur Medical College police are investigating a complaint of housebreak in and theft of gold jewellery and cash on Friday.

According to the police, Jayakumar, 49, of Rejina Nagar, runs a hotel on the Medical College Road near the Medical College Hospital. His wife, Suganya, works as a laboratory assistant at a government school in Thanjavur and his sons go to school.

On Friday, Ms. Suganya left home for work after Jayakumar had gone to the hotel and her sons left for school. Around 3 p.m., Jayakumar came home during lunch break. He found the steel cupboard ransacked and the backdoors broken. He lodged a complaint with the Thanjavur Medical College police saying that gold jewellery weighing around 50 sovereigns and cash totalling ₹5 lakh were missing from the house.

The Thanjavur Medical College police have registered a case and are investigating.
