541 projects to be completed in 100 days, says Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan

Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan on Wednesday informed the Kerala Assembly that the government intended to complete 541 selected projects in 100 days starting July 1.

Speaking in the Assembly after presenting the Kerala Appropriation Bill, 2026, Mr. Satheesan said a countdown had begun for implementing the projects, which have been cleared by the Cabinet. The 541 projects had been drawn from various government departments.

He said review meetings on the status of implementation would be held every 20 days and a dashboard was being set up in the Chief Minister’s Office to monitor the progress. The government was also planning to hold performance audits on all projects announced in the Revised Budget.

The Chief Minister said the State Plan size was downsized from ₹35,750 crore (as per the previous LDF government’s Budget for 2026-27) to ₹30,370 crore due to the ₹20,500-crore shortfall in revenue receipts anticipated by the previous government. The LDF, now in the Opposition, had no right to criticise the UDF for cutting the Plan size by ₹5,000 crore as it also had cut the Plan size when it was in power in 2024-25, he said.

Mr. Satheesan added that public money would be spent responsibly by his government. Projects would be implemented without delays, he said.

The Kerala Appropriation Bill, 2026, was passed by the Assembly amid an Opposition boycott over the Finance Bill, which was also passed on Wednesday. Once the demands for grants are allowed by the Assembly, it has to pass the Appropriation Bill which, as stipulated by Article 204 of the Constitution, is required to withdraw money from the State’s Consolidated Fund.

The first session of the 16th Assembly ended on Wednesday. The House adjourned sine die.
