Sources told News18 Marathi that a separate group received in-principle approval around 3:00 PM yesterday.

Uddhav Thackeray.

Uddhav Thackeray.

Amid the buzz over the split in the Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) through Operation Tiger, sources have confirmed exclusively to News18 Marathi that six MPs from the party have already submitted a letter seeking recognition for a separate group.

According to sources, this separate group has received in-principle approval. Sources said the in-principle approval was granted around 3:00 PM yesterday.

Back in 2022, Shinde, along with several MLAs, broke away from Uddhav Thackeray, splitting the party into two.

Further, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut on Wednesday took a swipe at the alleged attempts to engineer defections, claiming that the “Minimum Support Price" of an MP had been fixed at Rs 50 crore and that Rs 15 crore was “merely an advance amount".

What did they do next?

Following this approval, MP Shrikant Shinde and several key Shiv Sena leaders immediately left Mumbai for Delhi. After reaching Delhi, a meeting was held with legal experts.

As per the plan, the MPs who have expressed support in the letter will appear before Speaker Om Birla.

Why was in-principle approval sought first?

  • To invalidate the applicability of the UBT whip.
  • To ensure that recognition of the separate group cannot be revoked in the future.
  • To provide legal protection to the UBT MPs joining the separate group.

Who are the six MPs?

According to media reports citing sources, the specific six MPs linked to the breakaway group include:

  • Sanjay Dina Patil (Mumbai North East)
  • Omraje Nimbalkar (Osmanabad / Dharashiv)
  • Bhausaheb Wakchaure (Shirdi)
  • Sanjay Jadhav (Parbhani)
  • Nagesh Patil Ashtikar (Hingoli)
  • Sanjay Deshmukh (Yavatmal-Washim)

‘I am with Uddhav ji’

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP from Nashik, Rajabhau Waje, on Wednesday dismissed reports of any rift in the party. Waje reaffirmed his support for Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray.

“I am with Uddhav ji and will remain with him. I have no contacts with anyone else. I have not received any call, and no contact has been established with me by Shinde ji. I am not upset, and I am with them (Shiv Sena-UBT)," Waje told ANI.

Clarifying the purpose of his visit to the national capital, the Nashik MP said, “I have come here for a committee meeting."

Amid speculation over a possible split within Shiv Sena (UBT), party MP from Nashik Rajabhau Waje said that only a few leaders were physically present at the emergency meeting convened by party chief Uddhav Thackeray two days ago, while others joined virtually.

Speaking to reporters upon arriving in Delhi, Waje said, “Nothing much happened. Four people were physically present in that meeting, and five people spoke to Uddhav ji through video conferencing."

When asked about reports of some MPs breaking away from the party and whether they had the required numbers, Waje refrained from commenting, saying he was not aware of the latest developments.

“I don’t know yet. You are talking to me while I’m still on the train. I haven’t even got down. What would I know? There is no network in the train," Rajabhau Waje told ANI.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP from Nashik, Rajabhau Waje arrived in Delhi on Wednesday amid speculations of a split within the party.

His remarks come amid intense political speculation in Maharashtra over the future of Shiv Sena (UBT), with reports suggesting that a section of the party’s MPs may break away. However, no official announcement regarding any split has been made by the party.
