 'Vash' triumphs; sweeps Best Gujarati Film and Best Supporting Role

The 71st National Film Awards, held on Friday in New Delhi, saw Gujarati cinema achieve a significant milestone with the film 'Vash' taking home two major honors. The film, which captivated audiences with its compelling storyline, was named Best Gujarati Film.

Additionally, the awards ceremony celebrated the exceptional talent of actor Janki, who was recognized for her powerful performance with the Best Supporting Role award. Directed by Krishnadev Yagnik, this double victory for 'Vash' solidifies its place as a standout cinematic achievement.

While 'Vash' stole the spotlight in regional cinema, Bollywood clinched its share of shining moments. Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, and Vikrant Massey won major acting honours, celebrating performances that resonated with both critics and audiences.

Films like 'Pathaan,' 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,' and '12th Fail', all from a strong year for Hindi cinema, received recognition across categories. Notably, the hit track "Dhodora Baje Re" from 'Rocky Aur Rani' won 'Best Choreography,' showcasing Bollywood’s flair for vibrant storytelling through dance and music.

Diverse voices and regional cinema honoured across India

This year's awards highlighted India's linguistic and cultural diversity, with regional films taking centre stage.

'Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery' won Best Hindi Film, 'Bhagavanth Kesari' was named Best Telugu Film, while 'Parking' earned both Best Tamil Film and Best Screenplay. Malayalam film 'Ullazhukku,' Marathi film 'Shyamchi Aai,' and Assamese film 'Rongatapu' also earned top honours in their respective languages.

Non-feature categories acknowledged meaningful storytelling as well, with 'Flowering Man' winning 'Best Non-Feature Film' and 'God, Vulture and Human' being awarded Best Documentary.
