New Delhi: Delhi’s CM Shri schools are set for a major transformation as Delhi govt has approved a nearly Rs265-crore proposal to upgrade infrastructure at these 75 schools across the capital.
Cleared by the expenditure finance committee, the plan includes repairs, new classrooms and facilities, improved sports infrastructure, modern auditoriums, CCTV surveillance, science and technology parks and better amenities for children with special needs.The proposal was approved at the recent Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) meeting, chaired by CM Rekha Gupta, who said the govt’s objective is to create a learning environment where students have access to safe, clean and modern campuses.
The target is to complete all the work by the end of next year.The project includes redesigning, upgrading and beautifying school entrance gates in a modern style. The gates will prominently display the new CM Shri logo along with the school’s name. Extensive civil works have also been planned, including waterproofing to address seepage and dampness, interior and exterior painting, plaster repairs, construction and repair of boundary walls and fencing, upgradation of toilets and drinking water facilities, improvement of sewerage and drainage systems, development of sports infrastructure wherever required, repair of rainwater harvesting systems, renovation of multipurpose halls and other necessary repair works.
“The electrical works will include fire safety measures. Defective LED lights, ceiling fans, exhaust fans and public address systems will be replaced to ensure effective dissemination of announcements and emergency information across the campus,” Gupta said. The EFC meeting was also attended by PWD minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, education minister Ashish Sood and senior officials of the departments concerned.In addition, high-mast lighting will be installed across the school premises. Multipurpose halls and computer laboratories will be equipped with air conditioning and stage lighting. Schools will also receive LED signage and LED boards bearing the CM Shri logo, in-built RO water coolers, upgraded main electrical panels, new wiring, rewiring, power points and LAN points. As part of the priority works, child-friendly accessibility features for children with special needs, including ramps, tactile paths and handrails, will be developed.
CCTV systems, compound lighting and sports grounds will also be upgraded.Gupta also said that the project will completely transform the appearance of school campuses. As part of the upgrade, modern CM Shri entrance gates will be developed, while existing boundary walls in good condition will be retained with only the required minor repairs and their grit finish preserved. Fencing will be repainted in attractive contrasting colours. Modern outdoor galleries will be created in playgrounds to serve as outdoor classrooms, recreation spaces, venues for interactive activities and collaborative learning.
New turf will also be laid on basketball courts.
