These products were then allegedly sold to customers as paneer, often under misleading names such as "Low Fat Paneer", "Medium Fat Paneer" and "Premium Paneer," police said.

Hyderabad Police inspected nearly 45 retail outlets and eight manufacturing units.
Hyderabad police uncovered a major food adulteration and misbranding racket in the city, seizing around 825 kilograms of suspected fake paneer during special raids conducted across multiple locations.
According to a social media post by Hyderabad Police, special teams inspected nearly 45 retail outlets and eight manufacturing units and found several food business operators allegedly selling Cheese Analogue products as paneer, misleading consumers.
Cheese Analogue is a product made using vegetable fats and other non-milk ingredients. However, authorities found that it was being sold under labels such as “Paneer", “Malai Paneer", “Milk Paneer" and “Fresh Paneer", despite not meeting the standards of genuine dairy-based paneer.
Police said some food business operators were sourcing Cheese Analogue products from manufacturers as well as suppliers in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. These products were then allegedly sold to customers as paneer, often under misleading names such as “Low Fat Paneer", “Medium Fat Paneer" and “Premium Paneer".
Investigators found that while manufacturers had labelled the products as “Cheese Analogue" and included disclaimers stating that they contained no dairy fat, retailers were allegedly removing or ignoring these declarations and marketing them as paneer to increase profits.

The Task Force also identified several food safety violations during the inspections. Some manufacturers and shop owners were reportedly operating without valid Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licences, while others were repacking bulk products under misleading labels without proper declarations, batch numbers or expiry dates.
Authorities further alleged that some seized products showed signs of adulteration, including the use of starch, excess water, non-milk fats, poor-quality or synthetic milk, and other non-food-grade substances. Officials also noted instances of unhygienic storage and the absence of mandatory labelling requirements.
In total, around 825 kg of suspected adulterated and misbranded products were seized during the operation. Further investigation is underway to determine the extent of the violations and identify those responsible.
The raids have raised concerns over food safety and consumer protection, with authorities urging businesses to comply with food regulations and warning against the sale of misbranded dairy products.
