In a heart-warming gesture, a jeweler in Maharashtra gave a ‘mangalsutra’ (a sacred necklace worn by married Hindu women) to a nonagenarian couple for just Rs 20. Impressed by the bond and commitment between the duo, the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar-based jeweler gave them exclusive discount as a token of respect and appreciation.
Dressed in a traditional white ‘dhoti-kurta’ and a cap, the nonagenarian entered the jewellery shop in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar along with his wife.

Initially, the jewellery store staff assumed the husband (93) sought some financial assistance due to his humble appearance.
But when he conveyed his wish to buy a ‘mangalsutra’ for his better half, the owner got overwhelmed by the man’s gesture of love for his spouse and offered the sacred necklace to him for a “token" amount Rs 20.
A video of the heart-touching moment is doing rounds on social media platforms, with many impressed by the elderly man’s ever-lasting love for his wife.
Hailing from a humble farming family at Ambhora Jahagir village in Jalna district, the man, Nivrutti Shinde, and his wife, Shantabai, were on a pilgrimage to Pandharpur on foot for the Ashadhi Ekadashi celebration.
News agency PTI reported that the man had only Rs 1,120 to buy the necklace and after he told the owner that he wanted to buy it, the latter gave him for a mere amount of Rs 20.
“The couple entered the shop and the man gave me Rs 1,120, saying he wanted to buy a mangalsutra for his wife. I was overwhelmed by his gesture. I just took Rs 20 from him as a token of blessings, and handed over the mangalsutra to the couple," PTI quoted the shop owner as saying.
It is learnt the couple always travels together, sticking together through thick and thin.
