Andhra Pradesh recorded a sharp decline in employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) during 2025–26, with work generation, household participation and worker incomes all falling significantly compared with 2024–25, according to a new analysis by LibTech India.
LibTech India is a public policy research organisation that works on improving access and accountability in welfare delivery systems. The organisation’s latest tracker shows that all key estimates are based on year-on-year comparisons between 2024–25 and 2025–26. Total persondays generated under the programme fell by 23.2%, from 2,422.84 lakh in 2024–25 to 1,859.77 lakh in 2025–26. The number of registered households declined by 6.1%, while households that received work fell by 8.6%. The number of workers employed also dropped by 10.1%.
