What was meant to be an extravagant destination wedding in Udaipur has instead become the backdrop to a chilling murder investigation. Ketan Agarwal, a 26-year-old Pune-based realtor and director in his family’s Success Group business, was engaged to 20-year-old Siya Goyal in February, with their wedding scheduled for November.

The families had reportedly planned a lavish celebration at a luxury resort in Udaipur, with estimates of the overall expenditure ranging from Rs 5 crore to as high as Rs 17 crore in different reports.

Luxury Venue, Crores Spent, Private Jets Planned

Arrangements allegedly included booking a palace venue, chartering private aircraft for guests and making elaborate preparations months in advance.

“For the marriage, we had booked Ananta Resort in Udaipur. The cost was around ₹3 crore, and we were prepared to spend around ₹5 crore on the wedding," Siya’s mother, Pooja Goyal, told Hindustan Times.

From November Vows To Murder Investigation

The dream wedding never materialised. Ketan died on June 18 after falling from Lohagad Fort near Lonavala, a case that police now suspect was not an accident. Investigators have accused Siya and 22-year-old Chetan Chaudhary, who they allege was in a relationship with her despite her engagement, of conspiring to kill Ketan and stage the incident as a trekking mishap.

Police are probing several possible motives, including whether Siya was unwilling to go ahead with the marriage but felt constrained by family expectations and social pressures. Investigators have also examined phone records, chats and CCTV footage as they piece together the events leading up to Ketan’s death.

What was envisioned as a grand celebration attended by family and friends has now been replaced by court proceedings and an ongoing criminal investigation into the death of the groom-to-be.
