Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab media in-charge Baltej Pannu on Sunday defended the Bhagwant Mann government’s welfare initiatives, saying measures such as free electricity, improved canal water supply and financial assistance for women demonstrated the party’s governance record. He also alleged that the Congress, BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal had joined hands to target the AAP government.

Addressing a press conference, Pannu claimed that the opposition parties had “no answer" to the AAP government’s work and described them as “Team ABC", alleging that they were acting in coordination against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Pannu said nearly 90 per cent of households in Punjab were receiving zero electricity bills under the government’s 600 units of free power scheme. He also claimed that canal water had reached tail-end villages for the first time in decades and that more than 34 lakh women had begun receiving financial assistance under the state government’s welfare programme. According to him, the remaining eligible beneficiaries would start receiving assistance from August 1.

The AAP leader also alleged that the Congress was preoccupied with internal leadership issues instead of focusing on matters concerning Punjab. Referring to recent political developments within the party, he claimed the Congress leadership continued to rely on directions from its central leadership while criticising other parties on similar grounds.

Pannu further claimed that Congress and BJP leaders in Punjab were working in coordination, citing recent political meetings and developments. He alleged that the opposition’s criticism of the AAP government stemmed from its inability to counter the state’s governance record.

He also accused the Congress of applying different standards to the AAP on issues related to party leadership and decision-making, and urged it to address allegations previously raised within its own ranks before criticising others.
