Indrans starrer sees a slight improvement on Sunday, earns Rs 18 lakh

Indrans' film 'Aashan' saw a Sunday earnings boost to Rs 18 lakh, reaching a total of Rs 71 lakh. Despite positive reviews, the film struggled with audience turnout, prompting Indrans to urge viewers to support the movie in theaters. He highlighted the film's significance for over a hundred newcomers and expressed concern about its fate mirroring his debut film 'Guppy'.

Indrans’ latest outing ‘Aashan’, which has opened to positive reviews, saw a slight jump in the earnings on its first Sunday. The film-within-a-film movie, helmed by Johnpaul George, who has previously directed ‘Guppy’ and ‘Ambili’, hit the theatres on February 5.

Despite receiving a positive response, the film has been struggling to get numbers; however, on Sunday, the numbers improved.

On Sunday, February 8, which marked the film’s fourth day in the theatres, ‘Aashan’ earned Rs 18 lakh, according to tracking website Sacnilk. The footfall and occupancy on Sunday were slightly higher than on the previous day. The film's India net collection stands at 71 lakh now.

Day-wise box office collection of ‘Aashan’

On its opening day, February 5, the Indrans starrer earned Rs 22 lakh at the domestic box office, and on the second day, despite good word of mouth, the earnings fell to Rs 17 lakh.

The third-day collection was slightly low at Rs 14 lakh. Though the film minted more money on Sunday, the Indrans starrer might need more push to retain audiences.

Indrans urges people to watch the film in theatres

Following the poor performance in the cinemas, Indrans dropped a video message on his social media handle for the first time and urged people to watch the film in the theatres. “I am now on the set of Adoor (Gopalakrishnan) sir’s film 'Padayatra'. That is why I cannot come to the theatres and meet you directly,” the actor said.

Indrans also added that despite good reviews and response, the low audience turnout in the theatres is concerning.“Not just me, more than a hundred newcomers have acted in this movie. ‘Aashan’ is the hope and dream of many youngsters,” he added. The actor also expressed that ‘Guppy’, which was Johnpaul George’s debut directorial, was not well received in the theatres, despite being a good movie, and the same should not happen to ‘Aashan’.

“Do not make 'Aashaan' end up like 'Guppy'. That is why I made a video like this for the first time.”

What you should know about ‘Aashan’

Directed by Johnpaul George, ‘Aashan’ is a comedy-drama that follows a group of cinephiles chasing their dreams. The film revolves around two dreamers, at different stages of life: the first, young and full of excitement, and the other, an elderly person who carries a lifetime of memories. Actors Joemon Jyothir, Shobi Thilakan, Bibin Perumpally, Abin Bino, Kudassanad Kanakam, and Madan Gowri appear in key roles.

TOI has ranked the film 3 out of 5, and the review reads, “Indrans is the film’s emotional anchor. As Aashaan, he brings quiet dignity and warmth to a character that could have easily slipped into caricature. His performance is restrained, sincere, and deeply affecting, reminding us why he remains one of Malayalam cinema’s most dependable actors. Where Aashaan succeeds is in its honesty. The mess, the chaos, and the uneven pacing almost feel intentional, reflecting the disorderly process of filmmaking itself.

The film offers several genuinely fun and heartwarming moments that keep it engaging despite its long runtime.”DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers and data in this article are compiled from diverse public and industry sources.
