Indrans' latest film, 'Aashan', is facing a box office slump after a promising start. Despite positive initial reviews and a plea from the lead actor to support the movie, collections have plummeted. The comedy-drama, directed by Johnpaul George, is struggling to attract audiences, raising concerns about its commercial viability.
Indrans starrer ‘Aashan’ has completed five days in the theatres, but the box office collection shows a downward trend. The film, which hit the big screens last Thursday, February 5, is struggling to bring in the audience, despite receiving a positive response in its initial days.
‘Aashan’ is directed by Johnpaul George, known for his previous films ‘Guppy’ and ‘Ambili’.After seeing a slight improvement on Sunday, the film’s collection fell by more than half on Monday, February 9. On its fifth day, ‘Aashan’ only collected Rs 7 lakh, according to a report by Sacnik. The total box office revenue currently stands at Rs 88 lakh.
Day-wise box office collection of ‘Aashan’
On the first day of its release, February 5, ‘Aashan’ collected Rs 22 lakh at the box office, followed by Rs 17 lakh on the second day, despite good word of mouth.
The third day, the earnings fell even more, and the film only minted Rs 14 lakh. The fifth day, which was a Sunday, was comparatively better with earnings of Rs 18 lakh. With the film’s box office collection going down, Indrans recently shared a video message, in which he urged people to watch the film in the theatres. “I am now on the set of Adoor (Gopalakrishnan) sir’s film 'Padayatra'. That is why I cannot come to the theatres and meet you directly.”
He expressed his concern on the low turnout in the theatres. “Not just me, more than a hundred newcomers have acted in this movie. ‘Aashan’ is the hope and dream of many youngsters.
”He added, “Do not make 'Aashaan' end up like 'Guppy'. That is why I made a video like this for the first time.” ‘Guppy’, released in 2016, which also marked Johnpaul George’s debut directorial, did not perform well in the theatres, despite receiving positive feedback from the audiences.
All about ‘Aashan’
Helmed by Johnpaul George, ‘Aashan’ is a comedy-drama featuring Indrans in the lead role. The film also has actors Joemon Jyothir, Shobi Thilakan, Bibin Perumpally, Abin Bino, Kudassanad Kanakam, and Madan Gowri appear in key roles. TOI has ranked the film 3 out of 5, and the review reads, “Indrans is the film’s emotional anchor. Where Aashaan succeeds is in its honesty. The mess, the chaos, and the uneven pacing almost feel intentional, reflecting the disorderly process of filmmaking itself.
The film offers several genuinely fun and heartwarming moments that keep it engaging despite its long runtime.”DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers and data in this article are compiled from diverse public and industry sources.
