Actor Surya Krish is quite excited about his recent release Pongala , where he plays the second lead alongside Sreenath Bhasi. A dancer-turned-actor, Surya says, “ Pongala is based on a real incident that happened in Cherai, Kochi.
The characters are real, and we’ve only added cinematic elements to enhance the film.
I play Martin, the protagonist’s close friend — almost like a brother. But there are ego clashes and other circumstantial issues that arise. Do I stay with him till the end? It’s a very interesting character. I also got to perform a dance sequence in the film.”
About 'Pongala'
Pongala is Surya’s sixth outing. “I have previously been part of Sashiyum Sakunthalayum by RS Vimal, Soulmates alongside Sunny Wayne, Kakkipada , and Regina , to name a few.
These were all character roles. I’ve also worked as a junior artiste.”
Runner up of a major dance show
A media and communication graduate and dancer, Surya says he took up acting because of his father. “I was the runner-up of a major dance show for juniors on Malayalam television when I was 10. After that, I played Unni Mukundan’s childhood version in a few films, including Samrajyam 2 , and I was part of the Mahabharatam serial, too. That’s when the question came up — why not continue this? All of it happened because my father pushed me forward and supported me.
He showed me the path. Thankfully, my entire family is supportive. As a teenager, Surya also worked as an anchor.
