Action against two-wheelers, autorickshaws on highway flyover

Nashik: The Nashik police have launched a crackdown on bikers and three-wheeler drivers illegally using the flyover on the Mumbai-Agra Highway between the Indiranagar underpass and K K Wagh College from June 19.

At the same time, authorities have revised the speed limits on the elevated corridor, increasing them to 60 kmph for heavy vehicles and 70 kmph for cars and SUVs to facilitate smoother traffic movement.Police officials said two-wheelers, three-wheelers, bicycles and handcarts are prohibited on the elevated corridor from the Indiranagar jogging track to the Adgaon flyover, and the restriction remains in force.Meanwhile, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) approached city police to revise the earlier speed limit of 50 kmph. Following discussions between NHAI officials and Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik in May, the revised limits were approved. The elevated corridor enables motorists to bypass city traffic while passing through Nashik. The project began with a 6.1-km flyover from Indiranagar to Meenatai Thackeray Stadium, along with underpasses and elevated structures from Garware Point, creating an approximately 11km corridor. To ease congestion beyond K K Wagh College, particularly at Bali Temple Junction, Amrutdham Junction and Jatra Hotel, a 2.5km extension linking the existing flyover to Jatra Hotel was taken up in 2018 and completed in 2021.
