Actor Tiny Tom, who is an executive committee member of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), has filed an anticipatory bail petition in the Ernakulam District and Sessions Court in connection with a case registered by the Kadavanthra police on a complaint by actor Ansiba Hassan.
The petition is expected to come up for admission before the court on July 10. Mr. Tom moved the plea after the police registered a case against him on July 1 for allegedly making defamatory and communal remarks against Ms. Hassan. He was booked a day after the Ernakulam District and Sessions Court directed the police to file a first information report (FIR) based on her complaint.
Ms. Hassan had approached the court after the police declined to register a case on her petition dated June 20, 2026, citing a preliminary investigation. She is unlikely to implead in the bail proceedings, leaving it to the State to intervene. Mr. Tom has been charged under sections relating to insulting the modesty of a woman, criminal conspiracy, spreading false information, and other non-bailable offences.
In her petition, Ms. Hassan alleged that despite repeated complaints, she continued to face harassment, obscene remarks, gender-based insults, and communal comments, including imputations about her parentage, family life, and religious identity. Earlier, Ms. Hassan had cited the alleged harassment and related offences by Mr. Tom as the reason for her resignation as joint secretary of AMMA. Mr. Tom has consistently denied the allegations.
