Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday offered a measured assessment of the recently announced India–US interim trade agreement, stressing that economic engagement is unavoidable in an interconnected world and that the agreements might have certain gains and losses, but all nations always try to maximise the gains and minimise the losses.
“I have not studied it in detail, but no country can survive in isolation. Agreements are inevitable," Bhagwat said, during the second day’s sessions during his two-day lecture series in Mumbai.
He noted that every international agreement involves trade-offs. “Every deal involves some loss and some gain, but our priority must be to minimise our losses. If it is a true win-win, even better. But we need to focus more on our win."
Bhagwat also stated that India’s approach should focus on negotiation and adaptability. “There should not be any loss for the country in any deal. We must adapt, negotiate smartly, and extract the best possible outcome," he said.
Lauding Modi government’s resilience and prudence, he also expressed confidence in its handling of such negotiations, saying the present administration has demonstrated this approach over the past decade.
