Additional tehsildar arrested for taking bribe

Berhampur: Vigilance sleuths on Thursday arrested additional tahsildar of Belaguntha for allegedly taking Rs 10,000 bribe from a tractor owner to release his sand-laden vehicle.

The accused, Kabiraj Sethi, had detained the vehicle since Feb 5 without officially recording it.

Even though the vehicle owner submitted the supporting documents, the accused demanded bribe to release the tractor.When the complaint went to the additional tahsildar, he collected a fine of Rs 30,000 as cess payment and took a bribe of Rs 10,000. The entire tainted money was recovered and seized from the accused, vigilance sources said. The veracity of challans is being verified due to missing details and discrepancies in the customer and office copies, vigilance sources said. Simultaneous searches were conducted at the two locations linked to the accused.
