Indore: After a four-day lull, the India Meteorological Department has forecast isolated showers across Indore over the next five days, with monsoon activity expected to strengthen gradually from July 16.
In the absence of rain, humidity has increased, making weather conditions uncomfortable despite intermittent cloud cover. On Sunday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 32.9 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal and higher than Saturday’s 31.3 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature stood at 23.8 degrees Celsius, one degree above normal. Relative humidity was recorded at 78% at 8:30 am before dropping to 54% by 5:30 pm.
Despite the dry spell, seasonal rain has reached 329.1 mm, which is 85.6 mm above normal for this time of the season.“For the next five days, isolated rain is expected.. Gradually from July 16 onwards, rain activity might pick up pace from the south-eastern parts of Madhya Pradesh,” said meteorologist at IMD Bhopal Arun Sharma. The Met department said monsoon trough currently extends from Sri Ganganagar to south Assam, while a western disturbance and upper-air cyclonic circulations over northeast Bihar and south Bangladesh continue to persist.
But, no major weather system is influencing central Madhya Pradesh at present, limiting widespread rainfall across the region.Although the brief break has increased discomfort due to humidity, weather experts say it could benefit kharif crops by allowing excess water to drain from fields and improving oxygen supply to plant roots. At the same time, the health department has advised residents to remain cautious as stagnant water and humid conditions increase the risk of water-borne and mosquito-borne diseases, particularly among children and the elderly. The current season has nevertheless remained significantly wetter than last year. By this stage of July, Indore has already surpassed the rainfall recorded during the entire month of July 2025, which ended with 155.5 mm, making this year’s monsoon start considerably stronger despite the ongoing pause.
