After killing wife, man consumes pesticide before being taken into custody

Times News NetworkKhargone: A man accused of brutally murdering his wife and cutting her nose and ears in front of their four children in Pune district allegedly consumed pesticide in Khargone district before he could be taken into custody by police.Bhikangaon police station in-charge Neeraj Sarwan said that officers from Kharadi police station in Pune arrived in Khargone on Friday to apprehend Dayaram Babar, 36, in connection with the murder of his wife, Kiran. Before he could be arrested, he allegedly consumed pesticide.Babar is a native of Pokharabad village under Bhikangaon police station limits in Khargone district. He had been living in Pune with his family for the past three years, where he worked as a sanitation worker on a garbage collection vehicle, said Sarwan.Police sources said that the couple allegedly had a dispute in the early hours of Wednesday, following which Dayaram slit Kiran’s throat with a sharp weapon in presence of their four children. He also severed her nose and ears after the killing and placed the mutilated body parts in bathroom before fleeing the scene.The victim’s brother, Dadu Borse, who had also migrated to Pune about a year ago and worked in housekeeping, rushed to the house after being informed of the incident and lodged a complaint at Kharadi police station, leading to the registration of a murder case.

Borse later brought his sister’s body to their native village, Pokharabad, in Khargone district, where the family performed her last rites. Before leaving, Maharashtra police had asked him to inform them if Dayaram’s whereabouts became known.On Friday morning, Borse spotted Dayaram near Bhikangaon bus stand and alerted Pune police. By the time officers reached him, the accused was reportedly intoxicated and had already consumed pesticide.He was admitted to a hospital in Bhikangaon and later referred to Khargone district hospital.Hospital sources in Khargone said Dayaram was admitted in critical condition and shifted from the general ward to intensive care unit. His condition improved on Saturday, following which he was shifted to the medical ward where he is under custody of officers from Pune’s Kharadi police pending further legal proceedings.
