A physical altercation broke out between Greater Noida Police personnel and the family members of a girl who died by suicide inside a major private university campus in Greater Noida.

Visuals from the scene show a man identified as Vikas, a relative of the victim, being beaten by police officers inside the university premises.

In response to the controversy, Greater Noida Police issued a statement saying, "During the operation, some external miscreants entered the campus with the intention of escalating the matter. Police identified and removed them, and further legal action is being taken. Peace has been restored at the spot."

A second-year BDS student, Jyoti Sharma from Gurugram, died by suicide in her hostel room at a private university in Greater Noida on Friday night. A suicide note, purportedly written by Sharma, accuses two professors and the university administration of mental harassment.

In the suicide note found in Jyoti’s room, she wrote that she had been mentally harassed and humiliated for a long time, which caused her distress. Jyoti expressed a desire for the accused to face legal action.

"I want them to go behind the bars. They mentally harassed me. They humiliated me. I have been in this stress for a long time. I want them to feel the same thing," Jyoti wrote in her suicide note.

After the incident came to light, students protested against the university administration, alleging negligence. They said Jyoti was stressed due to accusations of forging signatures.

The police have arrested two university staff members in connection with the death.
