AGRA: A chief judicial magistrate court in Agra has directed the registration of an FIR against a sub-inspector, a hardware store owner and three of his relatives for allegedly assaulting a 41-year-old employee on suspicion of theft and subjecting him to custodial torture, including electric shocks.According to the complaint, Omveer Singh Tomar (41), a resident of Agra, was accused by his employer on Aug 26, 2025, of stealing a few items from his shop in the Belanganj area, where he worked for a monthly salary of Rs 15,000. He claimed he had left the job days before the alleged theft. Despite this, the owner allegedly falsely implicated him.The complainant also alleged that he was picked up by sub-inspector Sukhvinder Singh, then in-charge of the Gudri Mansoor Khan police outpost, and taken to the outpost and later to the police station, where he was pressured to settle the matter and that the police demanded Rs 4 lakh.
When he refused, he alleged, he was beaten in custody and subjected to torture, including electric shocks. The FIR said despite 22 CCTV cameras at the shop, the footage was not examined. Instead, Tomar alleged, the officer accepted a Rs 20,000 bribe from the owner and falsely showed old, broken items as recovered stolen goods to justify his arrest. After being released from jail on bail a month later, Tomar said he approached senior police officials, but no action was taken, prompting him to seek legal intervention.
Inspector Ankur Malik of Chatta police station told TOI, "An FIR was filed against Singh, who is currently posted at the Agra Police Commissionerate, store owner Bhajanlal Hoth Chandani and his relatives Jeetu Hoth Chandani, Arjun and Gaurav under BNS sections 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 191 (rioting)."
