In a fresh development in the Agra murder case, where a man who had been missing for 45 days was found buried beneath the bathroom floor of his own house, police have said the victim was allegedly first sedated with 15–16 sleeping pills mixed into kheer before being killed.

Investigators said Ruby, the wife of 44-year-old Surendra Kumar Sharma, has disclosed during questioning that she allegedly administered the sedatives before carrying out the crime. She had already confessed earlier to killing her husband, police said.

Sharma had been missing since May 18, and what initially appeared to be a routine missing person case soon began to take a darker turn. His family initially told police he had left home after a dispute, while Ruby maintained that he had gone missing mysteriously and would return. A formal missing person report was registered on May 26 after relatives approached the police.

As days turned into weeks, the case grew more perplexing. Despite searches and repeated questioning, there was no trace of Sharma and the statements given by those close to him began to raise suspicion. Investigators said inconsistencies in Ruby’s version of events eventually led them back to the couple’s residence for a closer inspection.

During a subsequent visit, officers noticed freshly laid bathroom tiles and newly done plaster work, which appeared unusual given the timeline of the disappearance. That detail proved crucial in shifting the direction of the investigation.

A detailed search of the house was then carried out, during which police dug up the bathroom floor and recovered Sharma’s decomposed remains buried beneath the tiles, bringing the long-running missing case to a grim and unexpected end.

Police said Ruby was taken into custody following the recovery of the body and has since been questioned in connection with the case. Police later sent the body for postmortem examination, while the forensic team has collected evidence from the house.

The victim’s brother, Anil Sharma, said the deceased was a habitual alcohol consumer, which often led to frequent disputes between the couple. However, investigators are yet to establish the motive behind the murder or whether anyone else may have been involved.
