The Andhra Pradesh government will provide all possible support to mango farmers, said Minister for Agriculture Kinjarapu Atchannaidu during a meeting with the mango growers and owners of processing units at Damalacheruvu panchayat in Pakala mandal of Tirupati district on Saturday (June 14).

He said, “Damalacheruvu mango market yard is the largest in the combined Chittoor district. This meeting was organised here to know about the problems of the mango farmers and to provide necessary assistance from the government. The farmers are not getting remunerative prices because the crop yields are high this year.”

The Minister said, “The procurement has already started from June 9 and a total of 15,976 metric tonnes of mangoes have been purchased in Chittoor, Tirupati and Annamaya districts till June 12. This year, the government has sanctioned ₹218 crore under the Horticulture Integrated Development Scheme for the welfare of the farmers.”

He further said that the government is working for the long-term welfare of farmers and that these funds should be utilised properly. He advised the mango farmers to adopt modern cultivation methods and post-harvest management practices. He assured that even the last mango of this season would be procured from the farmer.
