Ahmed Khan on bond with Shahid Kapoor; Addresses reunion possibility: 'We’ll come together when we’re on the same page'

Filmmaker and choreographer Ahmed Khan has spoken about his long-standing bond with Shahid Kapoor, putting to rest speculation about their equation. The two have shared a friendship since childhood and have collaborated on several memorable projects over the years.

While they are no longer seen together as frequently, Ahmed made it clear that changing priorities and career paths have shaped their relationship more than anything else.Ahmed played an important role during the early stages of Shahid's career. He choreographed the actor's first on-screen appearance in the iconic Aryans music video 'Aankhon Mein Tera Hi Chehra'. The duo later worked together on Ishq Vishk, Fool & Final and Paathshala.

Why they haven't reunited professionally

During an interaction with News18, Ahmed explained why audiences have not seen him and Shahid collaborate in recent years. According to him, both have been choosing projects that suit their individual creative sensibilities. Recalling their professional journey, he said, “I did Aankhon Mein Tera Hi Chehra and his first film Ishq Vishk as a choreographer. Then I directed him in a film called Fool & Final." Speaking about the shift in their careers, Ahmed added, “After that, I produced Paathshala in which he played a role.

But in the recent years, he’s following a certain template of films that he wants to do. I, on the other hand, am making a certain kind of films that I want to make."

Ahmed sees hope for another collaboration

Despite not working together for several years, Ahmed believes the possibility of another collaboration remains very much alive. He said everything depends on finding the right script that appeals to both of them.Sharing his thoughts, Ahmed said, “We’ll work together again when we come together (in terms of our sensibilities)."

He further explained, “We’ll come together when we’re on the same page about the kind of films that we want to do. I know that if I take a script to him at that time, he’ll jump into it. But at this point, it’s a fifty-fifty scenario." Ahmed also spoke candidly about how life has changed for both of them. While they remain childhood friends, he admitted that they are no longer able to meet as often as they once did because of changing lifestyles and professional commitments.

He shared, “I mean, we don’t meet that much. We are childhood friends. We became friends when I was 11 and he was all of 7. So, our friendship started some 30 years back. But yeh kaam hi aisa hai na ki isme kai naye dost aate hai. You befriend so many new people that you forget who your real friends are. Our lifestyles have changed now."

Finding new companions at home

Ahmed also reflected on his personal life and revealed that his closest friends today are his two sons. As they have grown older, conversations at home have increasingly revolved around cinema and filmmaking. Speaking about them, he said, “My sons are all grown up now. So, I’ve gained two friends in my life – Azaan and Subhaan. Azaan is 25 and Subhaan is 19. They come and talk to me about cinema and how films should be made today.

"While Ahmed and Shahid may not be collaborating at the moment, but he also left the door open for a future reunion.
