Ahmedabad: Opting for Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) parking space-linked incentive, a hotel in the Sola area has opened its 8,300 sq m space as free parking for the public and in return, is likely to get an annual property tax waiver of Rs 26 lakh.
Caspia Hotel located in the Sola area on SG Highway submitted an online application to the AMC to avail of the property tax relief and has opened its Basements 1 and 2 for citizens to use as free parking space. The space can accommodate around 150 cars and 50 two-wheelers, officials said. The move comes under AMC’s Comprehensive Policy 2026 on transforming traffic management, reducing parking encroachment, boosting road safety and managing cattle on the streets.
Under the policy, AMC’s property tax department had issued a circular making commercial properties eligible for tax relief if they open their parking area to the public. Non-residential commercial units like malls, hotels, theatres, multiplexes, miniplexes, video parlours, party plots, community halls, gymnasiums, hospitals, as well as social and educational institutions located on national and state highways and on ring roads can avail of the scheme.
Tax waiver is granted only if the commercial unit makes its parking available free of charge. Units wishing to avail the benefit must mandatorily fill out the form on the AMC website. Units must also appoint a person to ensure that vehicles are parked properly within the available space. Details of the vehicles parked must be fed into the AMDAPARK application authorised by AMC so that drivers can get real-time information on space available.
Additionally, directional signage indicating the availability of space must be mandatorily displayed outside the establishment, and parking bays be clearly marked.
