AIADMK IT wing functionary held for killing elderly neighbour in drunken rage

An AIADMK functionary has been arrested in Tamil Nadu’s Thiruvarur district for allegedly murdering an elderly neighbour while in a drunken state. The accused, Anand Babu, who serves as the IT wing leader of the AIADMK in Mannargudi, has been named the prime accused in the case.

According to the police, the incident occurred on the night of June 24 when Anand Babu returned home intoxicated. Muthulakshmi, an elderly woman who lived next door and reared goats and cows, was heard shouting at her animals. Anand Babu is said to have mistaken her yelling as being directed at him. In a fit of rage, he entered her house and assaulted her with a stick.

Residents of the area rushed the injured woman to the hospital, where she later died from her injuries. A case of murder has been registered against Anand Babu, who has since been taken into custody.

The two households reportedly had a history of quarrels over petty issues. Police also named Anand Babu’s mother in the case, but she has not been arrested so far.
