Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Tuesday said that the AIADMK General Secretary, Edappai K. Palaniswami, who was touring Tamil Nadu with the slogan “Save Tamil Nadu”, should first save his own party from the BJP.

“He has pledged the party to the BJP after Jayalalithaa died,” Mr Udhayanidhi said, while addressing party members in Maraimalai Nagar, Chengalpattu district.

Recalling the incident involving Mr Palaniswami’s outburst against an ambulance that passed through his meeting, Mr Udhayanidhi said the AIADMK had been reduced to such a state that it now required the services of an ambulance. “Soon you [AIADMK] will be travelling in an ambulance for surgery by the BJP and be admitted to an Intensive Care Unit,” he said.

Mr Udhayanidhi said that an ambulance is meant for emergency services, and that a leader should instruct their cadres to make way for it, addressing the crowd only after the vehicle has passed.

He added that while DMK cadres were committed to party unity and generally discussed statements issued by the leadership and news published in Murasoli, AIADMK members were more interested in pulling each other down.

“The party [AIADMK] is already functioning as three units, and now one more unit has been created. They are confused, as they are not sure who is aligned with whom. But they are certain that they are under the BJP’s control,” he said.
