Mangalagiri: AIIMS Mangalagiri has become a symbol of accessible and quality healthcare in Andhra Pradesh and reflects the development achievements of the 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, said Twenty Point Programme (Viksit Bharat–Swarna Andhra Pradesh) chairman Lanka Dinakar.During his visit to AIIMS Mangalagiri, Lanka Dinakar reviewed the healthcare facilities, interacted with patients and attendants, and inspected advanced medical services being provided at the institute. The visit was part of an initiative to highlight people-centric developmental works and understand public experiences at major institutions created during the last 12 years. AIIMS Mangalagiri in-charge director and dean (research) Dr Joy Ghoshal, dean (academic) Dr Desu Ram Mohan, senior doctors and faculty members accompanied him during the visit.

Later, Lanka Dinakar conducted a review meeting on the progress and achievements of the institute.Lanka Dinakar said the Centre established AIIMS Mangalagiri in accordance with the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act with an investment of ₹1,618 crore on 183 acres of land. Construction began in 2015, and the institution was completed by 2019, after which healthcare services were opened to the public. He said AIIMS Mangalagiri, which was ranked last among AIIMS institutions in the country when services started in 2019, has now improved its position to the 8th rank.

According to AIIMS officials, the hospital currently provides outpatient services to around 4,000 patients every day, with a registration fee of only ₹10. Nearly 9.85 lakh patients received OP services during 2025-26, and the figure is expected to cross 10 lakh this year. Since its inception, 35.26 lakh patients have benefited from outpatient services.The institute has performed 31,319 surgeries so far, including 22,081 major surgeries and 9,238 minor surgeries.

Dialysis services are being provided through a 35-bed unit, benefiting 16,586 patients since the start of operations. AIIMS Mangalagiri has also expanded advanced diagnostic facilities. The radiology department provides 600-700 X-rays and 250-300 ultrasound scans every day. More than 80 MRI scans and over 130 CT scans are conducted daily at affordable rates, while emergency patients receive scanning facilities free of cost.The institute has established PET Scan, SPECT Scan and radiotherapy facilities with an investment of ₹33 crore. So far, 6,225 oncology radiation treatments have been provided to cancer patients. Across 38 laboratories, AIIMS has delivered 66.23 lakh diagnostic services since its inception, including 21.85 lakh services during 2025–26 alone.Lanka Dinakar said patients are also benefiting from affordable medicines through the AMRIT scheme and the Jan Aushadhi Centre operating on the hospital premises. He added that AYUSH services, including Ayurveda and Homoeopathy, are being introduced at the institute.
