Air India has launched a brand-new lounge for its First Class and Business Class passengers on international flights at Terminal 3 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. The lounge will open on February 16.

Spread across 16000 sq. ft.,the loungecan accommodate around 300.

The airline has plans to open lounges at San Francisco, New York and other international destinations.

“Along with new and retrofitted aircraft now joining the fleet and the new lounges we hope what people are going to be experiencing while travelling Air India is worth the wait,” Air India CEO Campbell Wilson told journalists at a media launch event. Seat-availability–related supply challenges have put pressure on Air India’s retrofit programme, delaying the Boeing 777 aircraft upgrade by two years. The retrofit of the B777 fleet is now scheduled to begin in early 2027.

Meanwhile, the airline has completed retrofit work on 50% of its narrowbody fleet, covering 27 A320neo aircraft. These aircraft now feature upgraded interiors, including new seats, in-flight entertainment systems, carpets, and charging ports.

Air India’s next phase will involve retrofitting 13 legacy A321 aircraft. In addition, the airline has commenced the widebody retrofit programme for its legacy Boeing 787-8 fleet, with the first of 26 aircraft expected to rejoin the fleet later this month.

Elaborating on the seat-availability challenges that have most recently affected the Boeing 777 programme, Campbell said, “we got right to the point where we had designed the product, and we were doing the final inspections of the prototypes. And that OEM told us they couldn’t any longer continue the program, because they over committed their resources, and they simply couldn’t produce and walked away.”
