Air India has significantly improved the ground-service experience by launching The Maharaja Lounge, its first flagship premium lounge, in Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The lounge spans around 16,000 square feet in size and can hold up to 300 people. It reflects Air India’s updated corporate identity and hospitality philosophy by fusing luxurious design with top-notch services.
It is scheduled to open to eligible travellers on February 16, and will offer First and Business Class flyers special amenities as well as areas specifically designed for dining, working, relaxing, and bars.
Ajay Awtaney, founder and editor of Live From A Lounge (LFAL), shared a video of the Maharaja Lounge on Instagram, writing: “Air India’s first flagship lounge, ‘The Maharaja Lounge’ will soon open at Terminal 3 of @delhiairport, with plans for more lounges at airports across India and the world."
According to the post, the lounge will be available to guests travelling in Business and First Class, Gold and Platinum Maharaja Club members, and eligible Star Alliance members.
Features and Amenities of The Maharaja Lounge
The new lounge is meticulously split into different sections that are suited to the demands of various travellers, ranging from lively social areas to peaceful workstations. Key features include:
- Aviator’s Bar in the speakeasy style, featuring carefully chosen wines and whiskies

- Crystal Bar in the First Class area, tarmac-facing seats and private sleep chambers for pre-flight relaxation
- Live cooking stations serve Indian and foreign food in an elegant dining setting

Air India has also launched a creative “Tea Programme" to honour the most appreciated Indian beverage
Who Can Access the Lounge?
Access to Air India’s The Maharaja Lounge is not open to all travellers on payment. Admission is only available to:
- Air India First and Business Class passengers on eligible international flights.
- Gold and Platinum members of the Maharaja Club of Air India.
- Star Alliance Gold and higher status members who are eligible to travel abroad, including Business/First.

- There is no officially announced charge for independent admittance upon payment at launch.
Cost and Dining Details
Specific entrance charges and buffet costs for The Maharaja Lounge are not yet revealed. Although the lounge provides a wide variety of food and drink options, the official cost for passengers using the buffet has not yet been released.
Although certain alcoholic beverages and special services may require additional fees in accordance with conventional airport lounge standards, premium lounges generally offer eating (buffet and à la carte selections), non-alcoholic drinks, and lounge amenities as part of admission privileges for eligible passengers.
Air India’s Future Roadmap
Air India’s Maharaja Lounge is a significant milestone in its service transition; it signals improved hospitality standards before additional lounge rollouts at other Indian and international airports. It also highlights Air India’s endeavours to improve the overall travel experience for its high-end customers as long-haul flying becomes more competitive worldwide.
Indian design elements and cultural narrative are blended with contemporary luxury in this place, which was created by the international hospitality firm Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA). It offers upscale decor with tasteful furnishings, soft lighting, and a style that complements Air India’s updated logo.
