MUMBAI: NCP President and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar has said he will seek an explanation from Ahmednagar MLA Sangram Jagtap regarding his alleged hate speech and communal remarks against a community.
Pawar made the statement after the party’s state Vice-President, Salim Sarang, lodged a complaint about Jagtap's alleged remarks targeting a particular community."After videos surfaced showing Jagtap making strongly hateful remarks against Muslims, and many locals approached me, I complained to Dada (Ajit Pawar). He said he would seek an explanation from Jagtap. He also reiterated that our party follows the ideals of Phule, Ambedkar, and Sahu Maharaj, and believes in secularism," said Sarang.S
peaking to the media, Pawar stated that his party is committed to the values of secularism and communal harmony. "Our party cannot deviate from secular values. This issue has been brought to my notice, and I will ask Jagtap to explain why he made such remarks. We follow the ideals of Sahu, Phule, Ambedkar, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and communal comments against any community are not acceptable," Pawar said.
Sarang added that Jagtap’s alleged derogatory comments have disturbed many people and that locals fear such remarks could threaten communal harmony in Ahmednagar and other parts of the state if left unchecked.Sarang, who often raises issues concerning Muslims in the state, said that Ajit Pawar believes all communities have equal rights and that derogatory remarks against any community cannot be tolerated. Despite facing opposition from some minority leaders within the party, Sarang said he would continue to raise important and relevant issues. His swift action has prompted the party’s top leadership to take note of this serious matter.Sarang also said that some activists are planning to file a case against Jagtap for his alleged communal comments.
