The headmaster of a government primary school in Uttar Pradesh's Mahoba district has been suspended for allegedly misusing the institution's premises to consume alcohol and indulge in other inappropriate activities.

Locals have claimed that the teacher, identified as Ramesh Chandra, would remain intoxicated throughout the day.

They have also alleged that he frequently roamed the school during working hours dressed only in an undergarment and a towel.

The alleged pattern of misconduct came to light after a viral video purportedly showed the headmaster lying on a bench in an inebriated state inside an empty classroom.

Meanwhile, vulgar video songs are seen playing on an LED screen installed as part of a smart school initiative.

A student said that the headmaster would threaten anyone with false cases under the SC/ST Act if they dared oppose his misconduct on the school premises.

A local said that the teacher would routinely use abusive language in front of children. He alleged that the school premises had turned into a venue for late-night drinking parties involving anti-social elements.

Following complaints from villagers, Assistant Block Education Officer Ashwini Yadav conducted an on-site inquiry.

The allegations regarding the consumption of alcohol and dressing in an objectionable manner were found to be true, leading to Chandra's suspension, the official said.

A departmental probe has also been initiated against the headmaster.
