Amaal Mallik is finally setting the record straight. Months after his explosive March 2025 post announcing a break from his family made headlines, the music composer has now opened up about the emotional turmoil behind his decision.

In a new interview, Amaal shed light on the complex dynamics with his parents, the misunderstood bond with his brother Armaan Malik, and the silent struggles that led him to draw a line—both personally and publicly.In a chat with Siddharth Kannan, Amaal clarified that there was never any issue between him and his brother Armaan Malik. Instead, he pointed to growing differences with their parents, which, he said, gradually created distance between the two brothers.The composer opened up about the root of his differences with his parents, explaining that constant comparisons played a major role. He shared that being compared to his brother Armaan by their own parents made him feel lesser, especially when they questioned why he wasn’t making similar choices or decisions.He went on to explain that while his father is relatively easygoing, it was mostly his mother who expressed concern about his career choices.

She would often compare his decisions with those of Armaan, especially when it came to matters like show fees or popularity. Amaal said that for their mother, both sons deserved equal success and recognition—but he acknowledged that each artist’s journey is different and that he has carved a distinct path for himself.Amaal further explained that it took time for even his parents to truly understand what he was going through.

He shared that after he made the public post about distancing himself from family, his mother and father began to realise the depth of his emotional struggles. Without any prior discussion, Amaal had chosen to walk away and express his feelings publicly, which served as a wake-up call for them about how much he had been silently dealing with.The singer revealed that after his public post, many people criticised him for speaking out against his own family.

However, Amaal clarified that he had no intention of justifying himself to anyone. He simply wanted space—from his family and the outside world. Emphasising his need for peace, he said all he wanted was to focus on his work, make music, and not feel answerable to anyone.Mallik also opened up about the added pressure often felt by the firstborn in a family, especially when it comes to responsibilities. When asked if his mother disapproved of his approach to music and career, Amaal admitted that she often saw him as foolish—something he believes she still feels. He explained that his passion for music drives him to go overboard, even financially. For instance, if given a ₹20 lakh budget for a song, he wouldn't hesitate to spend ₹35 lakh to get it right.

He said his mother never fully understood or appreciated that aspect of him.
