Former Punjab Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) national executive member Amarinder Singh met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president J.P. Nadda in New Delhi on Saturday (June 6, 2026), amid speculation over a return to the Congress.

“Had a meeting with Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah Ji and Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Shri J.P. Nadda Ji today in New Delhi and discussed various issues concerning Punjab,” Mr. Singh stated in a post on X.

The speculation follows Mr. Singh’s recent criticism of the BJP leadership over the appointment of Kewal Dhillon as Punjab BJP president ahead of the 2027 Assembly election. He had expressed reservations about the choice and said he had not been consulted.

Dismissing reports of a rift, BJP’s senior spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliawal had said on Friday, “He is not going anywhere. He is with the BJP.”
