Ami Panjikar panel promises free parking, clean city

Panaji: The Ami Panjikar panel, backed by former defence minister Manohar Parrikar’s son Utpal, released its manifesto for the Corporation of the City of Panaji elections, promising cleanliness, free parking, responsible tourism and transparent services for residents.

Parrikar said that if the panel wins a majority, it will work to make Panaji the cleanest city in India by 2028.“Parking will be free in Panaji because it is impacting small businesses. We do not believe in punishing residents for travelling to the city,” Parrikar said, adding that pay parking has not solved congestion. He said the manifesto has already been distributed to voters by candidates. The panel is also calling for responsible tourism, especially in Fontainhas, where residents face pressure from tourist activity. Parrikar said policy changes would ensure tourism does not inconvenience locals. He said residents of Sao Tome are suffering due to casino staff parking.
