Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday accused the former Bhupesh Baghel–led Congress government in Chhattisgarh of backing the Naxalite movement, while asserting that the BJP had set the state on a trajectory of rapid development.
Speaking at a review meeting in Raipur with officials of the Chhattisgarh government and the anti-Naxal operations, Shah asserted that Naxalism was on the verge of being eradicated in the state before March 31 due to the BJP’s security-centric strategy and its attacks on the Maoist financial network.
“Governments of three different ideologies have been in power, more or less everywhere, for long periods. The Congress party was in power, and now the Bharatiya Janata Party is in power, and the Communists have also been in power," he said. “I can tell you, the Bharatiya Janata Party has performed the best among all three ideologies, and there is no denying this."
Amit Shah underscored the Maoist problem when Chhattisgarh was formed 25 years ago while the Congress was in power. He said Chhattisgarh is on the verge of becoming a developed state under the BJP rule, and Maoism is on the brink of eradication.
Taking a swipe at the Congress, Shah claimed, “As soon as the Congress government came to power here, a small state was suddenly confronted with numerous corruption issues, like something out of a horror film. At that time, I was the Home Minister, and Bhupesh Baghel’s government was in power. I can say without hesitation that the Chhattisgarh Congress government has been supporting the Maoist movement. There is no need for anyone to doubt this."

He also said the country needs to get rid of the “destructive" communist ideology at the earliest and appealed to Naxalites to lay down their arms, assuring them a red carpet from the government. “Wherever communists remained in power, they could not bring development. Communist ideology is an ideology indicative of destruction, and the country is required to get rid of it immediately," he added.
Earlier, Baghel had launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that he is proving to be “fatally dangerous" for the country and the “weakest and most cowardly" PM India has had.
Addressing a large public gathering at the Bhoa district during the ‘MGNREGA Bachao Sangram’ on Thursday, Baghel claimed that both the United States and China have identified Prime Minister Modi’s weaknesses and are exploiting them. He alleged that PM Modi was being “intimidated and arm-twisted" by global powers.
