Chandigarh: Campaigning for the coming Panjab University Senate elections is gathering momentum, with candidates intensifying outreach efforts among members of the university electorate.At a meeting in Mohali, Anandpur Sahib MP Malvinder Singh Kang and former Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) president and sitting Senator Prabhjeet Singh extended support to Senate candidate Dr Ravinder Singh Dhaliwal.Addressing the gathering, Kang said the Senate plays a crucial role in the democratic functioning of Panjab University and urged voters to support Dhaliwal in the forthcoming elections.Prabhjeet Singh announced that he would not be contesting the Senate polls this time and would instead back Dhaliwal’s candidature. He said the decision was based on Dhaliwal’s work and engagement with university stakeholders, expressing confidence in his ability to effectively represent the university community in the Senate.Thanking the MP, the sitting Senator and supporters for their endorsement, Dhaliwal said he would work towards strengthening the university’s democratic institutions and addressing concerns of students, teachers and alumni if elected.With the Senate elections approaching, candidates have stepped up meetings and outreach programmes, setting the stage for a closely contested poll.
