Anant gets bail in Dularchand murder case

In a significant ruling, the Patna High Court has awarded bail to Anant Singh, a legislator from the JD(U), regarding the murder case of Dularchand Yadav. Singh's legal team contended that he became a target of political maneuvering, citing evidence that casts doubt on the claim he fired the fatal shot.

Patna: The Patna high court on Thursday granted regular bail to JD(U) legislator Anant Singh in the alleged murder of Dularchand Yadav ahead of last year’s assembly polls.A single bench of justice Rudra Prakash Mishra allowed the bail plea of Anant and passed the order with certain strict terms and conditions.Anant’s counsel Naresh Dixit argued that his client had been falsely implicated in the case due to political motives, as there was no direct or indirect evidence to support the allegation that Dularchand died due to a firearm injury inflicted by the JD(U) legislator. “According to the FIR, a bullet was fired at the left ankle of Dularchand, which is not a vital body part. Further, there was no repetition of firing by my client, which clearly shows that he had no intention to kill the deceased,” Dixit said.

The counsel also referred to the post-mortem report, which showed the cause of Dularchand’s death as “hypovolemic shock” attributed to a “crushed injury of lungs and heart”, which according to the prosecution was allegedly caused by the co-accused Rajveer Singh and Karmveer Singh. “Hence the death of Dularchand was not due to any firing allegedly committed by Anant,” Dixit said. The FIR contained allegations by Niraj that his grandfather was killed by a bullet fired by Anant through his pistol. A case of murder and illegal use of firearm was registered under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Arms Act against Anant Singh and the two co-accused. Anant was sent to judicial custody on Nov 2 last year and had since been incarcerated as an undertrial prisoner in the case.
