VISAKHAPATNAM: Three members of a doctor’s family died in a suspected suicide pact at a lodge in Andhra Pradesh’s Palnadu district. The incident took place at Dinesh Grand Lodge in Narasaraopeta. The deceased have been identified as K Sankara Kumari (30), Dr K Gopi, and their three-year-old daughter, K Mounika. Kumari and Mounika died on Sunday, while Dr Gopi died on Monday morning while undergoing treatment.Police said Gopi worked as an anaesthesiologist at AIIMS Bhopal, and his wife Sankara Kumari was a nurse. The couple hailed from Satuluru in Nadendla mandal of Palnadu district.Gopi, along with his wife and daughter, had come to Narasaraopeta from Bhopal on Saturday and checked into the lodge, located under the One Town police station limits, on Saturday night. The doctor allegedly injected an altered dose of some medicine into his wife and daughter, and later injected himself. He then shared videos of the act with his relatives and also shared the location of the lodge. The lodge staff grew suspicious when the family did not come out of the room till Sunday afternoon and informed the police. Meanwhile, the doctor’s relatives also reached the location.Police broke open the door and found the three lying unconscious. They were shifted to a private hospital for treatment. However, Sankara Kumari and Mounika died during treatment on Sunday afternoon.Police suspect that the family took the extreme step due to Mounika’s deteriorating health. “We have registered a case and the investigation is on to establish the exact reasons for the suspected suicide pact,” police said.
