Bengaluru: A 30-year-old man from Andhra Pradesh was found murdered at Sarjapur late Thursday evening.Early investigations indicated assailants assaulted him and set him ablaze near a deserted stretch on Bikkanahalli Main Road in Burugunte village, near a private university.The deceased, identified as Vamsikrishna, was a native of Tenali in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh and was staying in a paying guest accommodation in Electronics City. He had completed a diploma in computer science in the city.Police said the incident came to light around 6.30pm. A hotel owner, who noticed thick smoke on the roadside, rushed to the spot and found Vamsikrishna had been set ablaze in a garbage dump.
His two-wheeler was also set on fire. The hotel owner alerted Sarjapur police.Police visited the spot and found that Vamsikrishna had been dead. His body, which had over 70% burns, was shifted for post-mortem. During the investigation, police found that Vamsikrishna, who had worked in a private Electronics City firm, was currently unemployed and looking for a job.A senior officer said Vamsikrishna had received a phone call from one of his friends from Andhra Pradesh, who had arrived in the city and asked him to pick him up.
Vamsikrishna then left the PG to pick up his friend. However, his phone was switched off after some time and was unreachable when his friend tried to call him repeatedly.Police suspect that Vamsikrishna was intercepted by assailants, who assaulted him before pouring petrol on him, setting him on fire, and fleeing the spot. Police have seized his two-wheeler.A case of murder has been registered at the Sarjapur police station. Police have recorded the statements of Vamsikrishna’s friend and others. Efforts are on to nab the accused, who are at large, and CCTV cameras are being verified to gather clues, police said.
