The Andhra Pradesh government unveiled its budget proposals for 2026-27, focusing on regional development, urban infrastructure, and citizen welfare, with a strong emphasis on the capital region, Amaravati. The department of municipal administration and urban development has been allocated Rs 14,539 crore to drive development in the capital area. Additionally, the government has granted administrative sanction for 97 works worth Rs 57,868 crore across sectors.

Swarna Andhra Vision 2047

Under the Swarna Andhra @2047 vision, the state has adopted a regional growth approach to ensure inclusive development. Three regions—Visakhapatnam, Amaravati, and Tirupati—have been identified as key engines of growth. Women are expected to play a pivotal role in achieving the vision, with policies aimed at enhancing women’s participation in development programmes and professional life.

Of the total urban development and municipal administration fund of Rs 14,549 crore, the share allocated to Amaravati alone is Rs 6,000 crore. The amoount allocated for Vishakhpatnam economic development development – 28,000 crore

Economic and Tourism Initiatives

The budget also outlines plans for the Andhra Pradesh Wealth Fund, designed to emulate successful sovereign wealth funds like those of Norway and Abu Dhabi, potentially becoming a long-term revenue engine for the state.

In the tourism sector, the government aims to upgrade Tirupati as a global destination, improving tourist infrastructure, hotel capacity, and recreational facilities in coordination with the Union government. Meanwhile, the Visakhapatnam Economic Region (VER) will see a comprehensive economic master plan, covering 11 districts with 41 high-impact projects in manufacturing, services, infrastructure, urbanisation, and agriculture. Proposals worth Rs 28,000 crore, including metro rail projects, are being submitted to the Centre for funding and private investment.

Social and Environmental Programmes

Education initiatives like Talliki Vandanam, introduced under the Super Six programme, continue, providing Rs 15,000 per child annually to over 67 lakh students. Under Deepam 2.0, 1.08 crore women beneficiaries receive three free LPG cylinders per year, with Rs 2,897 crore credited directly to their accounts. Women employees will also benefit from expanded childcare leave without age limits, promoting work-life balance.

The Harita Andhra programme aims to achieve 37 per cent green cover by 2030 and 50 per cent by 2047, combating desertification, halting land degradation, and implementing the Green Cover Wall as an ecological buffer across the state.

With these initiatives, the Andhra Pradesh government is signalling a strong push for balanced regional development, infrastructure modernisation, environmental sustainability, and women’s empowerment, setting the stage for long-term economic growth and inclusive progress.
